An exquisite and rare ceremonial mask made from real swordfish bone. The Bijogo (Bijago) people of Guinea-Bissau live on the Bijagós Islands off the coast of the mainland. Being an oceanic culture, the Bijogo utilized many different animals for ceremonial and spiritual art and artifacts, with the swordfish reserved for the most important members of society.
